Definition of Lcorrected, 24hrs

Values are calculated for separate day (7.00-19.00), evening (19.00-23.00) and night (23.00-7.00) levels. To the evening level 5 dB(A) is added, and to the night level 10 dB(A). Lcorrected is then the maximum of:
Lday
Levening + 5 dB(A)
Lnight + 10 dB(A)
This looks like, but is NOT the same, as the standard Ldn procedure with a night penalty of 10 dB(A).

Definition of Kosten-unit

Aircraft noise of large civil and militairy aircraft - based on the Aviation Act- is treated differently. The Kosten-method is derived from the NNI-method, but with a night-penalty of 10. 35 K- units are comparable to 60 à 65 dB(A) Ldn-level, but this depends on the way the airport is operated, and the position relative to the runway.

Definition of Bkl

For small (under 6000 kg) aircraft the noise metric is based on the Lden (day-evening-night equivalent sound level). The level is calculated approximately over the busiest weekend.
