Costs of quiet road surface

Quiet road surfaces are more expensive to lay and to maintain. That seems to be bad news. On the other hand: they reduce noise substantially, are more resistant to wear (except at sharp turnings), and are less accident prone due to much better drainage in bad weather.

- Additional to lay: around 10 US$ per square meter.
- Additional maintenance: 1 US$ per square meter
- Improved drains: 25 US$ per meter length.

It will depend on local preferences if this is a good proposition. Personally I would advise it for every road with more then 5000 vehicles/day and dwellings exposed to 65 dB or more.
